Help a less fortunate Scout through Ethan’s Giving Tree

The Bay-Lakes Council is providing an opportunity for the Scouting community to help local Scout members who may be in need of uniforms and uniform items.

This help will be done through The Ethan Giving Tree program starting November 14 through December 19, 2015. The Ethan Giving Tree program works on a donation basis. An Ethan tree (similar to an Angel tree) will be set up at the Bay-Lakes Scout Shop and Bay-Lakes North Scout Shop with Ethan cards on it. Each card will have the first name of the Scout along with the uniform items that they need. There will also be a space for other items they may want such as books, crafts, camping items, etc. Customers and Scout supporters can purchase the item(s) in the Scout Shop and give them to the store staff to collect for each child.

Name of the individual(s) will remain confidential. As the donations are collected you will be contacted to arrange pickup.

We need your assistance to make this project a success. Please click here to print out a request form and return to Brian.Robb@Scouting.org. If you have any additional questions please contact Brian by email or phone at 920-734-5705.

Silver Beaver Award

The Silver Beaver Award is given by the National Council, Boy Scouts of America upon recommendation of the Bay-Lakes Council to persons who have given outstanding service to youth over an extended period of time. To nominate a deserving volunteer for this award, click here.

Help us spread the good news about what your Unit is doing to provide invaluable support to other community organizations; includding logging your hours for SCOUTING FOR FOOD!

You can still log your hours at https://servicehours.scouting.org/UI/Security/Login.aspx with your username and password if you like; however we have made it even easier!

Using this, Service Hour Report link, you can complete the simple form with your Unit number, date and name of the project, # of youth and adults participating, and the total hours. It's that simple and will help us better recognized all the hard work our Scouts do for others throughhout the area.

Thank you in advance for your commitment to teaching the importance of service to others and demonstrating the Scout Slogan - Do A Good Turn Daily.

Scouting For Food Another Great Success!

Thousands of Scouts braved the cold on October 17th to pick up bags of food from homes throughout the Bay-Lakes Council.  Thank you to all of you who made this important community service a reality!  Feeding the less fortunate, especially children, is a growing concern in our area, and Scouting for Food helps stock the shelves of over 100 local food pantries, and teach our Scouts the value of service.

To order patches, visit www.baylakesbsa.org/sff.  The deadline is 11/30 to receive patches by your December Roundtable.

Tread Lightly! Seeking Outdoor Conservation, Eagle, Hornaday Projects to Fund

The national nonprofit organization Tread Lightly! has launched an initiative funding 25 Restoration for Recreation™ projects to celebrate its 25th anniversary. Scouts seeking funding for conservation, Eagle, or Hornaday projects are encouraged to apply.

Priority will be given to projects on public lands or waters that protect hunting, fishing, recreational shooting, and motorized vehicle access—including, but not limited to, a public lands clean-up, restoration or maintenance of an OHV trail or staging area, posting of educational signage, outdoor recreation stewardship events, and maintenance of recreation infrastructure.

Maximum funding award is $2,000. Deadline is December 1. Click here for more details and the online application.

Youth Protection Training

The Council Program Committee and Training Committee feel so strongly about the protection of your youth members that they have mandated that all leaders be current in Youth Protection Training by recharter time on December 31, 2015. Those leaders that aren't YPT trained at recharter time wont be renewed. They will be notified that they are no longer a registered leader along with instructions on how to renew their YPT so that they can regain their volunteer status. In the meantime, the application will be pulled or removed from the recharter pending the renewal of YPT.

Parents expect us, the Bay-Lakes Council, to provide quality programs and keep their children safe at events and with their respective leaders. The background check done on all leaders along with YPT training ensures that happens. See the training article for detailed directions on adult leader training. For more information, click here.

Charter Renewal

Internet Charter Renewal is the BSA’s web-based method for units to renew their charters from any online location—at home, the office or anywhere you have internet access. It’s easy, convenient, and accurate because you enter the information yourself!  Access the Internet rechartering information by clicking here.
