Iron Belle Trail Challenge

On June 2nd, the Department of Natural Resources will be dedicating the Michigan’s Iron Belle trail. This is Michigan’s newest cross-peninsula trail stretching from Belle Isle in Detroit across both peninsulas to Ironwood in the Upper Peninsula.

To complete this hike, the trail will be divided into segments with groups assigned to hike certain portions of the trail. Our hope is to get enough Scout groups signed up that we will have the entire trail covered.

You can sign up for the length of hike that fits the skills of your Scouts. Everyone will begin at the same time 9:00AM and complete your hike during that day. All participants will receive a commemorative patch.

For an even bigger challenge, participants are invited to return to the trail Saturday, Sept. 22 (National Public Lands Day), to complete a stewardship activity and earn a special rocker for the patch.

If your Unit is interested in participating send an email with your contact information to Raymond Rustem at:

We will work with you to identify a trail portion that best fits.
